Happy Within

The first great songbook of Irish America, focusing entirely on what Irish American music is. Songs are culled from a myriad of sources, and printed here. Many of these songs are being transcribed for the first time in these pages, having been culled from rare field recordings. Of particular interest are the songs from Alan Lomax's 1938 trips to Beaver Island in Michigan, where exiles from Donegal's Árainn Mhór reconstituted their community in North America. These songs and other lost hits from the likes of Butte, Montana and New York City's Tin Pan Alley run alongside more recent songs like those of Garth Brooks, Tom Waits, Thin LIzzy, and a few originals I wrote myself. 

Each song shines with its printed lyrics on one page and accompanying lore on the other.
